What I did on my Summer Vacation...

BEFORE AFTER

The original bathroom, a'la 70's

The new bathroom, a'la '99

Almost completely useless space...

It is interesting to note that this is a
continuous 8' slab of marble here -- something
you have a hard time finding anymore!

MUCH nicer as a deep soaking tub/whirlpool!!!

The old sink was mounted for midgets at 25"...

My revenge: the new one is at 42"

Check out the medieval-style sliver of
a medicine cabinet and roll shade!
For comparison, see the tri-part, 6" deep cabinet
which replaced it in the picture at 4 O'clock

We've seen the sink already (2 up and 1 down)...
Lets look in the big new shower instead...
Not only can I FIT in this shower without banging elbows,
but there is almost 10 FEET of shelf inside...
no more cascading wire birdcages from the shower head!

Heres a good contrast in lighting --
both of these pictures are WITH flash!
(Don't believe me? Look at the reflection
on the left wall in both photos)

With regards to lighting, note that the three tulips over
the mirror are OFF in this photo, and it is still brighter!!!
I think this shot shows the new tri-part mirror nicely...

Ever have a toilet that just won't swallow more than plain water?

Introducing the pressure assisted Turbo-Flusher-2000!

OK, I made up the name, but this thing
is like a JATO unit strapped to the flush handle --
stand up before flushing!

Click here to look under the hood (that's the tank, not the bowl, wiseguy!)...

Here's the old solid cast iron tub...
(BOY was that 550lbs a B*TCH to get out!)

Since it boasted a 6" waterline, and 8" rim, I couldn't even
get my knees wet sitting in it (or maybe I just have big legs... I don't know!)...
(FYI: the new tub is 20" and 22" respectively...)

The new shower stall is 50" by 36", which
makes it hard to get a good photo of it from 2 feet away.
The front is a 3' pivot door, and a 1' stationary glass panel.

To quote Julie Andrews, "These are a few of my favorite things..."

To solve the problem of EVER insufficient storage,
(as well as to "do something" with a sliver of space
I had next to the shower), I added a sneaky little(?) closet.

Maybe NOT so little? Behind an unobtrusive narrow door
lurks a THREE FOOT DEEP closet with five roll-out shelves.

I don't like deck-mount valves, and I don't like wall-mount spouts on this tub.
So, with about a half dozen extra joints
and a bit of knuckle bashing, I put everything where I want it...

By the way, the 'smudges' on some of the forest green wall tiles are pinkish flowers...

Now here's a tub I can USE! 20" of water, and (count them!) 8 jets!

I already mentioned the height of my custom "non-stooping" 42" sink --

I got tired of showers that hit me mid-back (the gooseneck on the shower
was a pre-remodel change I made in order to get the water up to neck level,
where I would then clock the back of my head on it!).

So what are you seeing here? The shower pipe leaves the wall at 8'4"
(Yep, 100" even... I like round numbers -- for perspective, the top
of the shower surround is 7 feet).
